What Should I Expect From My Massage?

If you're new to Move RX, your initial experience involves completing a questionnaire and health form. Following this, your massage therapist will discuss any medical conditions and expectations to tailor the therapy session for optimal results. They'll provide insights into techniques and guide you in preparing for the massage. Subsequently, you'll be led to a private room to make yourself comfortable.

Patients typically disrobe during the massage, whether it's a full-body treatment or focused on specific areas. The therapist will work on one section at a time, ensuring your modesty using sheets or blankets. They will apply consistent pressure throughout the session by employing various techniques, with or without oil.

After the massage concludes, your therapist will assist you in getting up slowly, granting you privacy to dress. Prepare to unwind and discover why Move RX is renowned for providing top-notch massages in Kelowna.

How Often Should I Go For Massage Therapy?

We encourage that if you’re looking for massages for relaxation purposes, you can get one every 3-6 weeks. However, if you are treating a specific condition, it is beneficial to schedule a more frequent session until we help reach your goals and then you can change to more of a maintenance schedule.

After your treatment, your RMT will have a better understanding of your particular needs and will be able to recommend a personalized frequency for you.

 Questions We Often Hear

  • Often our patients feel their muscles are overexerted through their training. Regular massages support recovery, prevent injuries and reduce swelling and stiffness.

In addition, Massage Therapy helps to improve muscle flexibility (preventing muscle pulls and tears). Relieving muscle tension and pain allows your body to shorten its recovery time.

  • Providing Massage Therapy in Kelowna allows us to see all types of injuries. From patients recovering from torn ACLs to minor wakeboarding injuries. Massage Therapy helps in the following ways:

Relieves Pain - Massage Therapy session allows your muscles to relax and receive more blood circulation.
Promotes Blood Circulation - As your massage therapist enhances the blood flow to the muscles, allowing for more oxygen and nutrients and less lactic acid build-up.
Better Muscle Flexibility - With reduced tightness and inflammation in your muscles, your body can focus on recovery. Depending on your treatment, deeper strokes, kneading, and firm pressure promote flexibility. A massage can help increase the body’s temperature, allowing your therapist to give your body a deeper massage.

  • We do! We offer direct billing and accept ICBC claims. Find out more information here.

  • We want to ensure that you are comfortable. Some people choose to take off all their clothes, some keep on underwear and socks, while others will undress only the body parts that are being massaged

The massage therapist is trained to work on direct skin and through clothing. Keep in mind that some specific massage techniques are the most beneficial when done directly to the skin. If you want to wear clothes, bring a clothing item you would feel comfortable getting oil on, such as a bathing suit or shorts and a tank top.

  • Most Canadian and BC health care benefit packages include massage therapy as part of their coverage. To find out if you are covered or not, you should contact your insurance provider and ask.

  • Deep tissue massages are primarily used to treat chronic pain and muscle-related injuries. A deep-tissue massage targets the inner layer of your muscles, often treating muscle and tendon injuries, pain, and stiffness in your major muscle groups. Deep-tissue massages involve the use of palms, fingers, and sometimes elbows and forearms can be used to increase the pressure.

  • Massage therapists receive training through formal education and a hands-on practicum. The massage therapy program lasts two years and includes courses such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, patient education, etc. This training aims for RMTs to deliver safe, ethical and effective care.

MoveRX also believes in having our team continue their education, allowing our team members to specialize in areas they are interested in and passionate about.

  • Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a regulated health profession that requires practitioners to meet specific education, training, and licensing requirements. Kelowna is guided by the Registered Massage Therapists Association of B.C. and the College of Massage Therapists of B.C.

Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) have additional and extensive training in the treatment and rehabilitation of muscle groups.
